Opened in 1991 West Island School received an Outstanding School Award from the Hong Kong Government in 2001. The school is an inclusive, co-educational centre which caters for 1, 200 students from over 40 nationalities in a modern building overlooking The University of Hong Kong and the Cyberport. The school has a strong focus on the value of international mindedness and the importance of community. It has a reputation for compassion and for service beyond the classroom as well as for academic excellence. The school offers IGCSE, IBDP and vocational education courses in both the middle and upper years and students access excellent higher education courses worldwide. The school also has a Learning Support Centre for students with moderate special educational needs.For the most able students the school offers enrichment opportunities as well as a specialised critical thinking course in the middle school.
