Nightlife in Hong Kong

Energetic Hong Kong knows how to party and does so visibly and noisily. Drinking venues run the gamut from British-style pubs through hotel bars and hipster hang-outs, to karaoke bolt-holes aimed at a young Chinese clientele. The last few years have seen a heartening surge in the number of wine bars and live-music venues, catering to a diverse, discerning and fun-loving population. Once synonymous with partying in Hong Kong, Lan Kwai Fong was undergoing a complete facelift at the time of writing. Soho is, for now at least, the new Lan Kwai Fong (LKF). Geared more to dining than drinking, it’s just a short journey away from LKF. Much of the western part of Wan Chai offers lively, respectable bars, although hostess bars still line Lockhart Rd. Old Wan Chai, further inland around Queen’s Rd East behind the tram tracks, is becoming another little epicentre of fine dining and sophisticated drinking. Kowloon-side, head back from the bustle of Nathan Rd for some nifty little bar areas, such as the karaoke bar scene around Minden Rd and the food-and-drink ghetto along Knutsford Tce in the north of Tsim Sha Tsui.
