Apple Daily Hong Kong
Simmering discontent among Hong Kongers with travellers and birth tourists from the mainland has reached a new flashpoint after members of the HKGolden.com forum raised more than HK$100, 000 to take up a full-page advertisement in Apple Daily featuring the image of a locust overlooking the city skyline of Hong Kong.
"Would you like to see Hong Kong spend HK$1, 000, 000 every 18 minutes on the children of non-Hong Kongers?" asked the ad. "Hong Kongers have had enough!"
The ad went on to "strongly demand" a stop to the "unlimited infiltration of mainland Chinese couples into Hong Kong".
Mass protests broke out in December when fashion house Dolce & Gabbana supposedly banned local residents from taking pictures outside its Canton Road store, allowing only tourists from the mainland to do so.
