Hong Kong Airport to City

Hong Kong Airport Transportation Options ComparisonHong Kong airport transportation is one of the most searched phrases from people who are planning to visit Hong Kong. This is the case because unlike airports in many large cities, Hong Kong has an airport that’s situated quite far away from city central (more than 40 kilometres apart).

There are many choices of airport transportation you can take to your hotel after you arrive. From public buses to luxurious limousines, the problem becomes which option is right for you.

The short answer is: there is no best airport transportation option. Choosing the right one depends on your preference and budget. In this article, I will share with you the different types of Hong Kong airport transportation and their pros and cons.

Hong Kong Airport Express TrainHong Kong Airport Transportation Option 1 – Public Bus

The public bus service from the airport (called Airbus) is your best option if your budget is tight. It is a network of buses that connect the airport to the city centre (Mong Kok, Tsim Sha Tsui, Central, Admiralty, Wan Chai, etc…).

Hong Kong Airport Transportation TaxiEven though the airport public bus service (Airbus or A Routes) is an express service, it still goes through many local neighbourhoods and stops at many designated locations. As a result, expect trips of more than an hour long to your destination.

Also, if your hotel is located near a public bus stop then this choice is a good option. It is really not recommended to stop at an unknown location and having to find the direction to your hotel. Imagine walking around crowded streets with heavy baggage in hot weather…

Hong Kong Airport Shuttle ServiceIf you are an adventurous person who has lots of time and don’t mind walking on crowded Hong Kong streets, the public bus service is perfect for you. You can save a few bucks as well.

Hong Kong Airport Transportation Option 2 – Airport Express

The Airport Express is one of the most popular airport transportation options in Hong Kong. Its efficient system makes it going from the airport to the city centre a breeze.

It’s also quite simple. There are only 3 main stations that you would care about: Airport Station, Kowloon Station, and Hong Kong Station. Kowloon Station is located in the Kowloon side of Hong Kong. And yes, Hong Kong Station connects you to the Island side of Hong Kong.
